Can CBD help with stress from COVID-19?

Ever wonder how much CBD oil to take?

These are just a few of the questions The Laboratory for the Study of Anxiety Disorders at the University of Texas at Austin is trying to answer.

The UT lab is conducting two in-home treatments studying daily dosing of CBD oil.

The first study is focusing on using CBD oil to alleviate elevated stress, anxiety, depression, or sleep problems caused by the COVID-19 outbreak.

“People who are suffering from COVID-19-heightened emotional stress because of COVID-19, to what extent would CBD actually be helpful?” Dr. Mike Telch told KVUE.

The second study is a similar in-home treatment study investigating the effects of CBD oil for those suffering from Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

CBD is considered a supplement and millions of Americas use it for pain and stress relief.

However, there are many scientific questions surrounding CBD supplements and their efficacy.

“There’s a lot of hype about CBD, but not that much science yet,” Dr. Telch said.

Are you interested in taking part in one of a CBD studies?

DIY Fall Wellness CBD Gummies

DIY Fall Wellness CBD Gummies - Naturally Mignon CBD

Looking for different ways to enjoy the benefits of your full spectrum CBD oil?

Okay, let’s make some CBD gummies!

Gummies are a great way to change up the daily oil and dropper routine or just another way to add CBD to your life.

CBD (Cannabidiol) is one phytocannabinoid compound of the more than 100 found in the cannabis plant. Full spectrum hemp oil benefits largely from an entourage effect of the entire plant being used to make the oil.

Here’s a great recipe that we believe you will enjoy.

Ingredients

10 ounces of apple cider.

2.5 Tablespoons of unflavored gelatin

2.5 Tablespoons of honey. I always use local raw honey because it has not been heated and pasteurized which kills the beneficial properties of honey.

CBD Oil – for this recipe we have used 1 fluid ounce (one bottle) of Naturally Mignon Full Spectrum 2000mg Pure Colorado Cinnamon CBD Oil.

Supplies

  • Medium saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cup
  • Silicone molds
  • Pipette – if you don’t have a pipette, a syringe or a heat resistant measuring cup like Pyrex
  • Baking sheet
  • Airtight container

How To Make Hemp Oil Gummies

Pour the 10 ounces of cider into your medium sauce pan, set temperature to medium heat and bring to a simmer.

Use your whisk to mix in the 2.5 tablespoons of gelatin until it is clump free. Once the gelatin is dissolved stir in the 2.5 tablespoons of honey until it’s well combined. This should take about 30 seconds.

Remove from heat and pour in desired amount of CBD. For our recipe, we are using 30ml of 500mg Full Spectrum Colorado CBD Oil (Cinnamon) from Naturally Mignon. Whisk in your CBD oil. At this point, I think it’s easiest to pour the liquid from the pan into a Pyrex measuring cup.

Place your silicone molds on a baking sheet. By the way, the number of your shapes and size in your mold will make a difference in the number of gummies you make. For this recipe, I am using molds that hold 6oz of liquid which will render 50 individual gummies and will have 10mg of CBD in each gummy.

Fill the molds to the top with your pipette, syringe or by pouring directly (be careful too to spill!). Place the baking sheet in your refrigerator for 4-5 hours. Make sure the gummies have fully set before removing from the mold.

How many gummies to eat is a personal choice. This recipe contains 10mg full spectrum oil per gummy.

Enjoy!

How to Make a Smudge Stick

How to Make a Smudge Stick - Naturally Mignon CBD

DIY sage smudge stick

I am going to show you how to make a smudge stick using a dry sage bundle and dried herbs.

So, if you have been searching, “sage smudge stick near me,” stop looking. You make your own DIY sage smudge stick at home.

Naturally Mignon offers organic sage smudge sticks that are already nicely bundled and cut.

But I understand sometimes you just want to some DIY satisfaction. So, here is how to make your sage smudge sticks.

History

People have used smudge sticks, or smudging, as a traditional practice in various ceremonies and rituals to ward off evil spirits.

Indigenous peoples in the Americas, Africa and Asia handed down the ancient practice of smudging fresh herbs for rituals and as medicine.

Today, we use smudging sage bundles and other dried herbs for scenting the home and aromatherapy.

Interestingly, a study published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology, burning medicinal smoke for one hour can reduce airborne bacteria by 94% and the purifying effects can last 24 hours.

Native Americans used three primary herbs:

  • Sage is used to dispel negative energy.
  • Cedar is used for an overall blessing or to cleanse where there has been illness.
  • Sweetgrass draws in positive energy.

The burning of smudge sticks is believed to provide a number of benefits:

  • Enhance Intuition – Healers have used sage because it contains thujone. Research shows that thujone is mildly psychoactive and it is used in spiritual rituals to enhance intuition.
  • Mood Improvement – A 2014 study showed that in specific cultures prairie sage is a viable treatment for anxiety, depression and mood disorders.
  • Stress Release – A University of Mississippi research project established that white sage has compounds that activate specific receptors related to elevating moods, reducing stress and possibly pain.
  • Improve Sleep – Negative ions from smudging can have a positive impact on how the body modulates serotonin. Negative ions have been observed to have a beneficial impact on balancing sleep patterns, promotes restfulness and improve physical performance.
  • Smells Good – Sage is a pleasant and clean fragrant scent. Burning sage can also do double duty as an chemical free air freshener or odor controller.

DIY smudging stick

The most common plant used for smudging is white sage, but there are others. There are many different plant materials you can use for smudging.

  • Sage smudge stick
  • Cedar smudge stick
  • Sweetgrass smudge stick
  • Lavender smudge stick

If you want to know how to make a rosemary smudge stick or how to make a sage and lavender smudge stick, just follow the instructions and add the herbs and flowers of your choice.

Please note: Do not inhale the smudge smoke, that will make you cough.

How to make a DIY smudge stick

Supplies

  • Sprigs of your chosen dried herbs
  • Cotton twine or sewing thread
  • Fire proof vessel for stick to rest on while burning (clay pot, glass)
  • Wooden match sticks (not a fire stick)

1. Lay out leaves

Assemble your herbs by layering the largest leaves or stems on top of each other.

Fresh herbs

2. Twine wrap

Cut a piece of twine 4 times the length of your herbs.

Cut the twine

3. Tie it off

Make a loose knot on the bottom of the bundle and begin wrapping the twine around the bundle tightly in a spiral up and the back down and then tie a knot to the loose bottom knot.

Wrap Smudge Stick

4. Let it cure

You want the leaves to be dry. Hang the sage bundle upside down in a dry sunny spot until the leaves are dry and brittle.

DIY Smudging Curing

5. Light it up

Grab a lighter and ignite the top of the bundle. Let the dry leaves ignite for a moment and then blow out the flame. It should then begin giving off a fragrant smoke.

Don’t inhale the smoke! Have a plate handy when you want to snuff it out. You can extinguish it and use it again.

DIY Hand Sanitizer Gel with Aloe

DIY Hand Sanitizer Gel with Aloe - Naturally Mignon CBD

Running low on hand sanitizer? DIY your way out of it.

More than likely you will find the ingredients in your medicine cabinet.

There are a lot of hand sanitizing recipes out there, but I have found this DIY recipe to be one of the easiest to make.

Plus, meets the requirements of the CDC for optimum germ killing and protection.

This recipe makes three, 3oz bottles of gel.

Make sure you use 70% alcohol or higher.

You can use any essential oil that you like. Just make sure the total amount for this recipe is 15 drops.

I usually mix lavender or rosemary with tea tree oil.

Can you mix rubbing alcohol and tea tree oil? Yes.

The tea tree adds an extra level of antibacterial, and germ fighting properties.

You can use any aloe vera gel from your supermarket or pharmacy. Just make sure it is 100% aloe vera with no added ingredients.

You can source all of the materials locally. I have also sourced all the items to order from Amazon if that’s easier.

As of this writing, rubbing alcohol and aloe gel are hard to find in local stores.

Ingredient List

  • 1/3 Cup 100% Aloe Vera Gel
  • 2/3 Cup Isopropyl Alcohol
  • 15 Drops Essential Oil(s)
  • 3 – 3oz Containers
  • High Heat Spatulas

Aloe Vera DIY Anti Bacterial GelAlcohol DIY Hand SanitizerEssnetial Oil Hand SanitizerHand Sanitizer BottlesPyrex Cup Hand SanitizerSpatulas

Take your ingredients and mix them in a glass or ceramic bowl.

It’s best not to use a plastic bowel to mix with unless you know it’s safe for rubbing alcohol use. Many are not.

I like to use a Pyrex glass measuring cup and then simply pour into your containers.

I picked up the plastic dispenser containers at Amazon. I’m sure you can find them or locally too.

That’s it. This hand sanitizer takes about 10 minutes to make.

Now, you have your own portable hand sanitizer.

The best part? You made it yourself!

Use it and stay safe!

What is a Lotion Candle?

What is a Lotion Candle? - Naturally Mignon CBD

Soy wax for skin

A skin lotion candle earns the nickname “2 in 1 candle” because it doubles as a body moisturizer. The melting pool of candle wax produces the lotion.

When you light the soy wax candle, it creates a melt pool that reaches a temperature of about 125 degrees, which is just the right temperature.

There is no burn. If done right, it just feels warm and lovely.

  • Treats hands, elbows, feet and flaky skin
  • A fabulous warm and relaxing body massage wax
  • A soothing cream for manicures and pedicures
  • Moderate topical pain relief

Don’t use any old candle wax on your skin

Unlike regular candles, lotion candles contain skin safe ingredients and fragrances. A regular scented candle is not made with skin safe ingredients.

Avoid trying to use a regular candle as a moisturizer because the non-skin safe ingredients may do more harm than good. Absorbing those ingredients into your skin could cause a nasty rash and inflammation. Stay away from using any candle wax on the skin that contains paraffin wax.

Combining CBD, lotions and candles requires a good formulation to create both a nice scent and act as a body moisturizer.

The ingredients and the lotion candle recipe can vary from manufacturer, but most (including Naturally Mignon) use a soy wax base with a combination of other oils and butters.

We hand pour Naturally Mignon candles and use soy wax, shea butter, organic coconut oil, and CBD isolate.

The CBD provides some topical pain relief and acts a an anti-inflammatory. However, there are many skin candle manufacturers that don’t add CBD.

Soy wax is safe for the skin as long as the soy wax is pure and contains no contaminants. That being said, some people are allergic to soy or soy based products. It best to try on a small patch of skin to test any adverse reaction.

Soy body lotion – more than a skin moisturizer

Are you seeking a way to spice things up with your partner?

Soy body lotion candles can introduce another dimension to your intimate sexy time moments. Using lotion candles as massage oil candles unlocks a fresh realm of sensory pleasure.

Enhance this experience by first establishing a relaxing atmosphere. Dim the lights and play soothing music. Then, light the candle and massage the lotion onto your partner slowly and smoothly.

You know what comes next!

Do CBD candles do anything?

CBD candles add topical pain relief and anti-inflammatory properties.

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a cannabinoid derived from the cannabis plant, renowned for its non-psychoactive properties.

When applied topically, CBD has the potential to interact with the endocannabinoid system (ECS) present in the skin.

The ECS plays a pivotal role in regulating various skin functions, including inflammation, sebum production, and cell growth. CBD’s interaction with the skin’s ECS receptors may result in multiple potential benefits.

Is candle wax good for your skin?

Yes and no.

If it is an ordinary fragrance candle then do not use on your skin. Regular candles usually contain paraffin and fragrances that are no skin safe.

If it is sold as a lotion candle then the answer is a resounding yes, but once again the ingredients do matter and vary by manufactuer.

Naturally Mignon CBD soy lotion candles possess natural anti-aging properties and are loaded with antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins A, E, and K.

Is soy wax safe for your skin? Is soy wax for skin usage?

Yes. A good quality soy wax is the best when mixing lotions and candles. Soy wax is a type of wax that is full of vitamin E and antioxidant properties.

It is the wax of choice because it is natural, clean, safe and soft. Soy wax also has a low melting point temperature and burns long and slow.

It helps lock in moisture, and people often use it to address skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, dry skin, cracked skin, cracked heels, and rough cuticles. It is soft, creamy, and effective in these applications.

But there are a few things to consider:

Additives

Some soy waxes used in candles or other products may contain additives or fragrances that are not suitable for direct skin contact. Poor quality soy wax can have contaminants.

Temperature

Soy wax has a low melting point, making it relatively safe for skin contact compared to paraffin wax, which has a higher melting point. The melt pool of a soy candles is usually around a desirable 125 degrees.

However, even soy wax can become too hot when melted, so be cautious when using it in its liquid form to avoid burns.

Skin Sensitivity

Some people may have sensitive skin and could experience irritation or redness when using any type of wax on their skin.

It’s advisable to conduct a patch test by applying a small amount of melted soy wax to a small area of the skin to check for any adverse reactions before using it more extensively.

Purity

Ensure that the soy wax you plan to use is pure and free from contaminants. Low-quality or impure soy wax may not be suitable for skin contact.

How to use a CBD lotion candle

When you are ready, light the soy body lotion candle and allow the wax to melt into a pool. Blow out the flame when you have melted the desired amount of oils

After that, dip your fingers in and gently rub the waxy oils on your skin for a wonderful moisturizing massage. You only need a small amount.

Simply light the lotion candle and wait for a pool of melted, buttery lotion to form. Blow out the flame and dip your fingers into the waxy, oily goodness.

You can use candle lotion anywhere on the body except the face. Many of my customers tell me they use it on the hands and have a lot of success treating severely dry skin and eczema patches.

Soy body lotion daily use

Incorporating skin lotion candles into your routine can transform your relaxation rituals into a sensory journey. Plus, the warm oils and wax open the skin’s pores and makes an excellent body moisturizer.

CBD and Hemp Terpenes Explained

CBD and Hemp Terpenes Explained - Naturally Mignon CBD

Have you ever asked yourself, “what the heck is a terpene?”

What is the difference between CBD and hemp terpenes?

If you need terpenes explained in an easily understood manner, read on.

Think of terpenes as what gives plants their taste, smell and color.

Terpenes are the natural chemical compounds that give essential oils like lavender it’s pleasant smell. It’s what gives fresh ground pepper or orange peel it’s distinctive scent.

Terpenes occur naturally in plants, fungi, bacteria and some animals. It is also commonly added to food, perfume, skin lotions and creams.

Cannabinoids like CBD and THC are naturally occurring chemical compounds found in hemp and cannabis. Terpenes are a separate type of chemical compound that occur alongside CBD. It is thought that terpenes enhance the cannabinoids effects on the body.

There are over 20,000 different terpenes in the world and hemp oil contains around 100-200 of them.

In CBD Hemp oil, terpenes are produced from the sticky resin of mature female hemp flowers.

The most well known active ingredients in hemp or cannabis is CBD and THC. CBD is highly present in hemp, but THC is not. THC is what gives marijuana its “high.”

Do terpenes get you high?

No. Terpenes cannot get you high. Terpenes are not psychoactive like the cannabinoid THC is.

Terpenes work indirectly with other chemical compounds found in cannabis to increase the effectiveness of cannabinoids, but it does not get you high.

Smoking hemp does not give you a marijuana (THC) high.

Hemp terpene profile

Cannabinoid research is exciting promising field. There are continuing scientific studies of CBD and terpene rich hemp oil and its effect on skin, the autoimmune system, the immune system, rheumatic diseases, insomnia and other health problems.

Most terpenes have antimicrobial properties, meaning that they have properties that can combat potentially harmful bacteria and viruses.

And more is being learned about the full spectrum secondary cannabinoids like THC, CBDa, CBG, CBN, that along with terpenes, creates a therapeutic phenomenon known as the entourage effect.

Many of the terpene compounds in CBD Hemp also have anti-anxiety and anti-depressant like effects.

Here are some of the most common terpenes in full spectrum hemp oil.

Myrcene

Myrcene is the most abundant terpene in hemp oil, It works alongside the cannabinoid CBD.

Research indicates Myrcene’s sedative and naturally relaxing properties are in part responsible for CBD Hemp Flower’s natural stress-relieving, and calming effects.

Therapeutic Uses

  • Sedative
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Antimicrobial
  • Relaxing
  • Analgesic

Caryophyllene

The terpene caryophyllene gives off a clove-like, peppery flavor scent with subtle undertones of citrus.

Hemp flower or CBD with high beta-caryophyllene has powerful anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects.

Studies also show that this terpene has benefits in painful, inflammatory GI tract disorders such as Crohn’s, Colitis, and IBD.

B-caryophyllene is also found in basil, lavender, cinnamon, caraway, oregano, rosemary, clove, and black pepper.

Therapeutic Uses

  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Anti-oxidant
  • Neuro-protectant
  • Effective with IBD
  • Analgesic
  • Promotes healthy digestion
  • Anti-anxiety and stress-relief
  • Boosts immune system functioning
  • Stimulates cancer apoptosis, or cell death
  • Suppresses tumor growth

Linalool

Linalool is what gives a smooth taste and subtle, floral quality to hemp CBD.

Research indicates this terpene has anti-anxiety and calming effects.

Linalool is in herbs like lavender, mint, laurel, and basil.

Therapeutic Uses

  • Anti-depressant
  • Anti-anxiety
  • Muscle relaxation
  • Sedation
  • Anti-epileptic
  • Immune system support
  • Analgesic
  • Anesthetic-like effects

A-Pinene

Pinene is the terpene that give hemp and cannabis its “piney” smell. It’s also one of the most abundant terpenes in nature.

Pine forests produce and enormous amount of it. Hemp plants produce it too.

Therapeutic Uses

  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Antibacterial
  • Improves memory
  • Anti-anxiety

Guaiol

Research shows that the terpene has antimicrobial and insecticidal properties.

The terpene is mainly found in cypress, pine, and conifer tress and it produces a “piney” smell.

Therapeutic Uses

  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Digestion and immune support
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Analgesic
  • Antispasmodic

What is CBD Good For?

What is CBD Good For? - Naturally Mignon CBD

What is CBD good for? That is a question many consumers are asking as the popularity of CBD increases.

Let’s start with the basics.

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a compund in cannabis plants that many believe to have a variety of potential therapeutic benefits.

Some of the most popular benefits of CBD include:

Cannabis (hemp and marijuana) come from the same plant family, but they have important differences.

Marijuana has high amounts of THC which is what gives users a “high.” Hemp produces CBD and very small amounts of THC.

Over the last twenty years, the amount of research into the benefits of cannabis has grown as we all seek more natural solutions to our wellness.

The method of using CBD is also important. The most common are oils (tinctures) and edibles, like gummies.

Skin care products use cannabidiol because it can be easily absorbed through the skin.

How does CBD help epilepsy?

Some epileptics find that CBD oil reduces seizures.

The FDA has approved a drug called Epidiolex that is a form of CBD, which can help these people. Epidiolex is the first FDA-approved drug for Dravet syndrome and LGS.

Epidiolex Bottle

However, it’s important to note that the drug isn’t a cure epilepsy.

There is a lot of research still needed to confirm that cannabidiol may have positive effects on seizures in general, but it’s always best to consult with a healthcare professional before taking any new supplement or medication.

Research

  • Anxiety and depression: Studies have found that CBD may help reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, although more research is needed to confirm these findings.
  • Pain and inflammation: CBD has been shown to reduce pain with arthritis and multiple sclerosis.
  • Epilepsy: CBD has been shown to be effective in reducing seizures in certain forms, specifically Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS).
  • Schizophrenia: CBD may play a role in helping manage symptoms, although more research is needed to confirm this.
  • Cancer-related symptoms: CBD may be effective in reducing symptoms such as nausea and vomiting from chemotherapy.

However, more research is needed to fully understand its effects and potential uses.

Many research studies are currently underway. For example, The University of Texas is testing CBD’s effectiveness in treating PTSD (post traumatic stress syndrome).

It is important to note that CBD products are not currently FDA-approved for any medical use. It is always best to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new treatment.

What is Full Spectrum CBD Oil?

What is Full Spectrum CBD Oil? - Naturally Mignon CBD

I am excited to announce Natural Mignon now carries our own formulation of CBD oils and salves.

And yes, hemp oil is legal in Texas and the remaining 49 states!  Thanks Farm Bill 2018.

We believe that full spectrum products are the way to go because of the entourage effect that is provided for mind and body. Entourage effect is a term referring to how all the compounds work together in a synergistic fashion.

What is full spectrum hemp extract? It means that the hemp oil extracted from the hemp plant maintains all the compounds from the plant.

The compounds include the following:

*CBD – this is the NON psychoactive cannabinoid found in hemp

*Other cannabinoids including cannabigerol (CBG) and cannabinol (CBN), I know some many of these words seem the same!

*Flavonoids – are a diverse group of phytonutrients found in fruits and veggies. Flavonoids are powerful antioxidants with anti-inflammatory and immense system benefits.

*Terpenes – create an aromatic effect but also help with relieving stress (aromatherapy), pain, inflammation, appetite, anxiety, elevate moods and bacterial infections.

*Amino Acids

*Essential Fatty Acids

*Vitamins and Minerals.

What’s the big deal about hemp oil extract what does hemp oil do for you?

Studies have shown that the above listed compounds have important health benefits that include feelings of calmness, stress relievers, improved moods and helps with sleep cycles.

Additionally hemp oil effects our endocannabinoid system (ECS) positively. What is ECS?

It is a highly important receptor system the promotes stable equilibrium for sleep, helps with pain, moods and memory.

But what does my ECS have to do with cannabinoids?  Our body produces our own cannabinoids – it’s even in breastmilk and the way it reacts with ECS has an effect on your mind and body.

When cannabinoids are introduced, like the ones in our hemp extract oil, our ECS responds with beneficial effect on your brain and body.

Pretty cool, huh? Nature doing it’s job, naturally.

I know the question you are dying to ask, “Hey Mignon, is this going to get me high?”

Yes, if feeling healthy and great naturally gets you ‘high’.

However, the real answer to your question is, no.

Tetrahydrocannabinol is THC, which is the component of cannabis that creates a high.

Hemp and marijuana are two different plants with the the Cannabis genus so they are not the same.

Both plants share a common compound in CBD. Here is the main thing you need to know. Marijuana has high (ha!  did you get that?) concentrations of THC where hemp only contains trace amounts of THC (less than, 0.3%). That trace amount will NOT get you high.

I hope this answers your question and I invite you to try our amazing, natural CBD products at naturallymignon.com.

When this source of moisture is removed, your skin can become dry and inflamed, resulting in eczema symptoms.

There are a number of factors that contribute to what is known as and eczema flare up.

We created our Winter Itch Butter (unscented and lavender scented) to help with some of the triggers for eczema flare ups.

Naturally Mignon Winter Itch has just two key ingredients to help both with integrating more moisture to the skin and also sealing the moisture in.

The two ingredients are safflower oil and palm oil.

Both Safflower and Palm oil are known for calming inflammation and it also helps to lock down the moisture which makes it highly effective for those with eczema, psoriasis and excessive dry skin.  They are also rich in Oleic acid which creates a great moisture barrier from the skin to the elements.

Our scented version with Lavender oil also has some great benefits.

Lavender helps to reduce the itching.  Eczema often causes anxiety, depression, frustration and poor sleep.

Lavender creates a sense of calmness and a de-stressor but it also calms down the skin inflammation.  The scent can help facilitate sleep, when itching is often at its worst.

If you or someone you care about suffers with any of these skin issues, we hope you will give the all natural approaches from naturallymignon.com a try.

What is Hand Eczema?

Let’s face it: Human hands take a beating.

It most often affects people who work in cleaning, catering, hairdressing, healthcare and mechanical jobs where they may come into contact with chemicals and other irritants.

This is what is known is commonly known as dishpan hands. But its real name is simply hand eczema, which is a form of dermatitis.

According to the National Eczema Association genetics and contact allergens play a small role in triggering this extreme dry skin condition

How do I know if I have hand eczema?

All forms of eczema cause itching and redness of the skin.

Symptoms of hand eczema:

  • Redness
  • Itching
  • Pain
  • Dryness, to the point of peeling and flaking
  • Cracks
  • Blisters

There is another type of hand eczema referred to as pompholyx eczema, dyshidrotic eczema or dyshidrotic hand dermatitis which causes small, itchy blisters to appear on the palms of the hands.

The appearance of blisters makes this different then the more common hand eczema described here.

Dyshidrotic eczema needs to be treated by a doctor.

Hand eczema treatment

One thing to remember when treating hand eczema: Don’t use moisturizer!

The water in lotions and moisturizers is likely to worsen your hand eczema.

Common moisturizers contain more water than oil, and when the water evaporates it can dry out the skin again.

The best moisturizer for hand eczema is an oily body butter or cream with no water added.

An ointment like petroleum jelly can be effective, but repeatedly absorbing a petroleum based product through your skin is not considered safe.

I recommend Naturally Mignon Winter Itch Eczema Butter. It can be used on dry spots all over the body (except face) including dry hands. It is all natural and contains no artificial colors, scent or parabens.

The butter is made from pure safflower oil and palm oil with no water added. Yes, it’s a bit greasier than an off-the-shelf mositurizing lotion, but over time it is very effective in restoring your hand’s moisture barrier.

It’s best to apply to your hands immediately after you shower or bathe and every time you wash your hands.

Those who see eczema on top of hands because of sun exposure can benefit from wearing light protective gloves to block the sun’s rays.

It can take a few months for a hand eczema flare-up to clear up. While treating your condition, it’s best to keep your hands away from strong detergents and chemicals.
