CBD for Sleep

CBD for Sleep - Naturally Mignon CBD

Using CBD for sleep may be a good strategy for those suffering from moderate insomnia or have a problem staying asleep.

Poor sleep quality just doesn’t make you tired or experience a lack of energy.

It also has a negative effect on your health, such as being more accident prone, less focused (mom brain), assorted heart disease conditions, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke.

Lack of sleep can also kill your libido and can increase depression symptoms.

Bottom line: Lack of sleep is no bueno.

One of the anecdotal benefits of CBD has been to help improve sleep, but how?

Let’s discuss the anecdotal reasons why.

The belief is that CBD responds to our endocannabinoid system (ECS).

Your ECS modulates our circadian rhythms which regulates your sleep and wake cycles.

Medical science is beginning to study CBD for sleep.

Early studies have found that it’s effective for anxiety which in turns helps longer sleep durations.

“To the extent that pain or anxiety interferes with sleep, CBD may facilitate sleep by reducing pain or anxiety, this would be an indirect mechanism,” said Jamie Corroon, ND, MPH, medical advisor at CV Sciences.

Many CBD oil users report that it helps ease anxiety and relaxes the body, making it easier to fall asleep.

“This is a staple in my house. It helps with anxiety and allows me to relax and sleep.” Naturally Mignon Customer Christy Ferdon

“Helps so much with my anxiety during the day and makes it easier to fall asleep at night.” Naturally Mignon Customer Paula Deyette

It also must be noted that the FDA has not approved CBD as a sleep aid and more studies will continue to be done.

The best way for you to decide if CBD for sleep is to try a nightly CBD oil regimen.

It is best to start out with a higher dose like our 2000mg Naturally Mignon Full Spectrum CBD Oil.

Combat the Dreaded Winter Rash Dry Skin

Combat the Dreaded Winter Rash Dry Skin - Naturally Mignon CBD

Why do I itch so much in the winter?

Winter is in full effect for many parts of the US and so is the dreaded winter rash or winter itch.

This time of year many of us get that dry, itchy, red, and scaly skin that ordinary skin lotions can’t treat.

Winter brings cold, dry air with almost no humidity. When you couple that with the fact we live in heated homes creates the perfect storm for dry skin and winter rash.

“Think of it as dry air sucking the moisture out of the skin,” said Susan Taylor, MD, Associate Professor of Dermatology at Penn Medicine.

“It’s that loss of moisture from upper layers of the skin that causes it to dry out.”

Another key contributor to dry skin is the shower or bath. Hot water strips off the skin’s natural oils and waxes.

Frequent hand washing and anti-bacterial gels also contribute to dry skin. Detergent hand soaps and chemicals do their job and kill germs. The downside is those chemical are harsh and will also dry out your hands.

Are you a swimmer? The chemicals in swimming pools also strip out the skin’s oils.

How CBD affects your skin

Many cannabis topicals on the market, like Naturally Mignon’s CBD Butter, contain cannabidiol (CBD).

CBD is easily absorbed through the skin and its effectiveness in treating dry skin conditions is gaining interest in the medical community.

Cedars-Sinai dermatologist and skin cancer surgeon Dr. Nima Gharavi says using a CBD skin care product may help with treating severely dry skin.

“However, more studies are needed to see if CBD or other chemical agents found in the cannabis plant directly improve skin quality and have other health benefits,” Dr. Gharavi says.

“I’d like to see more data on how CBD, in the form of a topical agent, could have promising or comparable anti-inflammatory effects as a steroid.”

How to treat winter itch

Ordinary skin lotions are not very effective for severely dry skin conditions such as winter itch. You need something with a little more firepower.

Products that contain oils and waxes work best. This includes many ointments and body butters like Naturally Mignon’s CBD Body Butter and Full Spectrum CBD Salve ointment.

Skin products that contain oils and waxes require a little more time to absorb into the skin as compared to a lotion. The feel is more oily, but this provides moisture barrier that lasts far longer than lotion.

A good technique to use is to pat yourself dry with a towel after a shower or bath. With your skin still moist, apply an intensive moisturizer. This will help the moisturizer trap water in the skin.

Look for these ingredients in winter itch relief products:

  • Lanolin
  • Beeswax
  • Olive oil, safflower, coconut oil
  • Mineral oil
  • Hyaluronic acid
  • Glycerin
  • Dimethocone
  • Petroleum jelly

Other tips

  • Limit showers or baths to 5 minutes
  • Use lukewarm water
  • Use a low detergent soap that contains natural oils
  • Pat your skin dry with a towel after shower
  • Apply moisturizer 2 times a day
  • Use a bedroom humidifier at night
  • Try a cannabis topical with CBD

NFL Awards $1 Million to Study Cannabis and CBD for Pain Management

NFL Awards $1 Million to Study Cannabis and CBD for Pain Management - Naturally Mignon CBD

The National Football League (NFL) is awarding $1 million to two teams of researchers to “investigate the effects of cannabinoids on pain management and neuroprotection from concussion in elite football players.”

The studies will be carried out by medical researchers at the University of California San Diego and University of Regina in Saskatchewan, Canada.

The studies are being funded by both the NFL and the NFL Player’s Association (NFL-PA). The studies will look at both CBD and THC in the treatment of pain management.

This is welcome news for CBD consumers who use CBD for medicinal purposes. Clinical studies like this provide CBD consumers with real world science that help make buying decisions.

The study will focus on the effects of cannabinoids on pain and recovery from sports-related injuries in elite athletes.

Researchers will assess the “therapeutic efficacy and adverse effects of ∆-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabidiol (CBD), and combined THC/CBD, compared to placebo, for relief of post-competition soft-tissue injury pain in elite athletes.”

Many NFL players, including Super Bowl Champ Rob Gronkowski, have been using CBD for pain management for years.

Can CBD and THC help football players recover from severe concussions?

That’s what the team in Canada will be studying. Concussions in the NFL are a big concern.

<“An additional goal is to assess the neuroprotective properties of cannabinoids to reduce the incidence or severity of acute and chronic concussion in professional football players.”

The study will go one step further and determine if CBD and THC is an alternative to opioids.

“Our research will also work to show that cannabinoids can be used as an alternative to opioids for pain management. Ultimately, this study has the potential to change not only the lives of current and former NFL players, but also the lives of anyone who may suffer from a concussion,” said Dr. Patrick Neary, an exercise physiologist and professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies at the University of Regina.

CBD for Opiate Withdrawal? FDA Approves Trials for CBD Based Treatment

CBD for Opiate Withdrawal? FDA Approves Trials for CBD Based Treatment - Naturally Mignon CBD

The ravages of opiate overdoses and deaths is a constantly evolving tragedy in the US that shows no signs of slowing.

A Colorado pharmaceutical company is now beginning clinical trials for a drug that uses CBD for opiate withdrawal.

The Federal Drug Administration (FDA) has granted Ananda Scientific approval to begin human trials on a CBD based drug to treat opiate addictions called Nantheia ATL5.

Using cannabidiol (CBD) for opiate addiction holds some promise as being a viable treatment.

The clinical trials will determine if theraputic CBD decreases opioid cravings

The FDA has given Ananda Scientific an “investigational drug designation.” This is the first step in FDA testing. It determines if the drug is safe for humans and achieves some effectiveness and merits further development.

This means that Nantheia ATL5 is not going to be available to treat opiate addiction anytime soon. The approval process can take years.

According to the Centers for Disease Control 500,000 people in the US died of opiate overdose since 1999.

The CDC says in 2013 a new a wave of opiate deaths began with the introduction of synthetic opioids like fentanyl.

“The approval of the IND for this important clinical trial is a key milestone for our ongoing research into therapeutic alternatives for opioid use disorder and reversal of the effects of the opioid epidemic,” said Dr. Edthye London, Ph.D, Ananda Scientific.
